Care and Etiquette

  • Any flag should be flown and displayed in proper lighting—whether that be natural daylight or a lighting system during the evening

  • If bad weather is in the area, or approaching the area, the outdoor flag should be taken down and brought to a place where it will not grow worn

  • The design of the flag is not to be changed in having any marks, words, or drawings

  • Other than being displayed on patriotic leaders (such as police officers, firefighters, and military figures) the flag patch is not to be worn on any articles of clothing

  • When lowering the flag, no parts of it should touch the ground; the same goes for raising the flag

  • When torn or frayed, the flag can be mended by the owner, however it should look non-noticeable and respectful

  • It also should be cleaned regularly

  • When a flag is no longer able to be flown, it should properly be disposed of, by burning
